I love writing. I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions.
THE POWER OF THE PEN
Emotions flow from soul to paper in a swirl of loops, lines, and letters. The pen is a powerful tool when wielded by a skilled writer. Your words are important and should not be entrusted to a throw-away pen that is worth less than the ink it contains. When a pen runs out of ink, it should be refilled. A fountain pen is a tool worthy of the task of writing your valuable thoughts on paper.
THE MYSTERIOUS FOUNTAIN PEN
The thought of using a fountain pen can be intimidating. It seems like there must be some unknown, mystic ritual involved in using one and it would surely not be practical to use one on a daily basis. This is how I felt when I first considered purchasing a fountain pen. But as it turns out, it is extremely easy to use a fountain pen. I carry mine with me everywhere I go. When I need to write, I simply take out my fountain pen, pull off the cap, and write. It’s as simple as that!
It takes a little time to get used to writing with a fountain pen because it is a little different than a ballpoint pen. But as you get used to the pen, it seems much more natural to write with than a ballpoint. The pen is held on more of an angle and rests comfortably on the area between your thumb and index finger. It requires very little pressure to lay swirls of beautiful ink on your paper.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
There are a few different ways to refill the ink in a fountain pen. Pens are usually either filled by drawing ink up into the pen through the writing end with a screw or lever plunger. Or you simply replace the ink cartridge. My fountain pen can be operated both ways, but I personally use the ink cartridges.
Like any quality tool, a fountain pen needs proper care to keep it functioning well. Here are some key tips for caring for your pen
- Always keep the cap on when not in use to keep the ink from drying out
- Flush the pen with water periodically to remove ink buildup
- Refill with ink or replace ink cartridge as needed

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT A FOUNTAIN PEN?
A fountain pen feels very REAL. That’s why I have included it on this blog. It makes you feel like you have stepped back in time to a more peaceful, meaningful, non-virtual world. It is very satisfying to put real ink on real paper with a classic pen. But don’t take my word for it. You can buy a good quality pen for a very reasonable price and experience the joy of writing with a fountain pen for yourself.
CHOOSING A FOUNTAIN PEN
There are a lot of great fountain pens, but I am going to give you a few examples of very nice pens that are reasonably priced that will be a joy to write with.
Nemosine makes a few different models of fountain pens. I personally use the Fission Gunmetal Fountain Pen https://www.nemosine.com/collections/fission
